Movie tickets are expensive... abroad
If you think Malaysian movie ticket prices are expensive, you should consider how much they cost abroad.
It's not so easy to get latest stats but a news report from July 2016 says that average US tickets cost $8.73 (equivalent to RM34). That same report says the average UK ticket price was £7.17 (RM40) while in China it's $6.50 (RM25). The lowest average ticket price can be found in India where it's $3.95. That's about RM15, which is not that far from ticket prices here in Malaysia.
For example, tickets for an evening show of Maze Runner at TGV in KLCC is RM19 for standard seats and RM21 for preferred seats.
What about in Australia? A December 2016 report says that a low estimate for average ticket prices Down Under is A$14 (RM44), which makes it even more expensive than in the US. But that's nothing compared to what moviegoers in Northern European countries have to pay. According to this report, in Switzerland it's US$16.15 (RM63); in Sweden US$12.72 (RM50); and in Norway US$12.69 (RM49.50). Wow!
