Movies I want to see this year
The other was 12 Strong starring Chris Hemsworth. That was a rather ho-hum movie. If you're expecting a Black Hawk Down, you will be disappointed. The action wasn't thrilling and based on what I've read online, the story has little resemblance to what actually happened. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Three movies currently playing that I would like to see are all only being show on limited screens: Darkest Hour starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill; Downsizing, a comedy starring Matt Damon; and All The Money In The World starring Mark Wahlberg & Michelle Williams. These are not exactly blockbuster material but each of them have some elements that I like. Gary Oldman is always a joy to watch. As is Matt Damon. And I'm a fan of Ridley Scott, who directed All The Money In The World.
These are the movies I'll be looking forward to from February onwards.
Feb 15: Black Panther.
But of course!
Mar 22: Pacific Rim: Uprising
Not really a fan of the series. The first one was so-so only. And it looks a bit too much like Transformers for my liking. But I'll probably watch it just cos it's such a hugely anticipated movie. Maybe I'll be surprised and it'll be actually quite good.
Note: In March there's also Ready Player One directed by Steven Spielberg but I'm really not a gamer (I'm so not into gaming) so I'll probably give this one a miss.
Apr 26: Avengers: Infinity War
No explanation needed.
Note: In early April there's Mark Felt, which is about Deep Throat of Watergate fame. This movie came out in the US last September. Why the distributors would bother to release it here nearly half a year later is a mystery since people can already get it online. And this is not the kind of special effects movie that you have to watch on the big screen. I would have gone to watch it if had been released in September last year, though. It's the kind of biographical movie that I like. Sort of like Darkest Hour.
May 24: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Gotta see this one.
Note: There's also Deadpool 2 in May but I didn't see the first one and am not that keen on this series although many people seem to like it. I'm very much a Marvel Studios fan and although this is a Marvel character, it's not by Marvel Studios.
Jun 7: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Should be good. I enjoyed the last one. And I like Chris Pratt.
Jul 5: Ant-Man and The Wasp
This should be excellent. I really liked the first one.
Jul 26: Mission Impossible 6
I've seen all the previous five installments so no reason to miss this one. Besides, Tom Cruise films are usually quite good.
Aug, Sep & Oct: Nothing worth watching. Unbelievable!
Nov 15: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
I saw the first one and it was pretty good. So, will see this one too.
Note: There is X-Men: Dark Phoenix in early November but I find the X-Men franchise pretty tired by now. Might be better if this series were to go back to Marvel Studios, which hasn't made a bad film yet.
Dec 20: Aquaman
Wasn't a huge fan of Justice League but will give this one a try.
Dec 25: Bohemian Rhapsody
Am big Queen fan, so will definitely want to watch this one though it's had a very troubled production.
Conclusion: Best months will be July and December cos there are two movies for each of those months. Worst months are Aug, Sep, Oct... nothing to watch.
Most Anticipated: If I could just watch one movie, it'd be a tough choice between Avengers and Solo. But I'll probably choose the former.
